Ho Tram: the coast beyond Vung Tau
Ho Tram is a separate coastal area further along the shore from Vung Tau. The national tourism guide describes it as a resort and villa zone and lists it as a place to stay in its own right. It is not part of the Vung Tau peninsula, so you plan the trip as a separate outing or as a change of base.
An older press article from 2019 puts the drive at a little under 50 km from Vung Tau. Take that only as a rough orientation, because it comes from one older source and the route may differ today. We name no resorts, villas or casinos here, and we give no room prices. If you want to know what a day on the coast east of Vung Tau looks like, the sections below take Ho Tram and Long Hai in turn and then turn to the Con Dao question.

Ho Tram and Long Hai: how the coast is laid out
Two places, two different kinds of trip.
Long Hai is a seaside town beside Vung Tau, and it appears as a separate place in the zones of a bus company's fare notice from 5 May 2026. Ho Tram lies further along the coast. For a visitor the difference is simple: Long Hai is the place for a temple outing, and Ho Tram is where you look when you want a resort-style stay or a longer day by the sea.
If you are comparing them with the city's own beaches, read the page on Vung Tau beaches first and decide whether the trip is worth the time on the road.

Ho Tram tour from Ho Chi Minh City
A private two-day tour from Ho Chi Minh City to Ho Tram with the guide, hotel transfer, meals, a massage and afternoon tea listed on the card. Check the card for what the stay includes.
Long Hai and the Chua Khi temple
A temple outing with monkeys.
Long Hai is a beach destination for many people on the Chua Khi excursion. Chua Khi means the monkey temple, and the national tourism guide notes that macaques live there and grab personal belongings. Keep phones, bags and sunglasses in your hands or in a closed bag, and do not carry food in plain sight.
The distance of about 30 km from Back Beach refers to the temple, not to every beach in Long Hai. Other stretches of the coast can lie closer or further. Most people reach Long Hai with their own transport or a hired car. Plan the visit as a half day and add extra time for the road.
Getting there
From Vung Tau and from Ho Chi Minh City.
We quote no transfer prices between Vung Tau, Long Hai and Ho Tram, so do not budget from a single number you find online. Agree a price and a pickup point with a driver in advance, and compare at least two quotes. A private car or a hired driver gives you the most freedom for both places in one day.
If you are coming from the other direction, the route from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau by ferry, bus and airport transfer is described on the getting to Vung Tau page. From there you continue along the coast. Many people base themselves in Vung Tau and visit the east coast as a day outing.
Con Dao from Vung Tau: ferry suspended
The boat is not running at the moment.
Con Dao is a group of islands far off the coast that many travellers ask about when they plan Vung Tau. This site has no separate page for the islands. What matters here is the connection. The shipping company says that the sailing from Vung Tau to Con Dao has been suspended since 1 August 2026 until further notice, in an announcement dated 17 October 2026. Do not plan a trip that depends on this boat.
Older timetables for the same port may still be online, with sailings on set weekdays and a crossing of about 3 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours. Do not read them as a running service. Do not count on a same-day return trip either.
The alternative is the flight. The airline lists a route from Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) to Con Dao (VCS) of about 1 hour 15 minutes. The flight leaves from Tan Son Nhat Airport, not from Vung Tau, so you need to travel to Ho Chi Minh City first. The fare depends on the date and the booking. Use the page on getting to Vung Tau if you still need the road and airport connections.
Planning the east coast
A short checklist.
Decide first whether you want a day outing from Vung Tau or a stay on the coast. For a day outing, Long Hai and the temple fit in half a day, and Ho Tram works as a full day if you have a car. For a stay, ask the property for the transfer details and the room price, because we give neither.
If you would rather stay in the city and see the sights, start with the things to do in Vung Tau. The private two-day tour from Ho Chi Minh City lists a guide, hotel transfer, meals, a massage and afternoon tea. An overnight stay is not spelled out in the listed inclusions, so ask the provider before you rely on it.
